Case Study Report

Location: Wisconsin

Application Type: Carpentry Shop

Design: Woodworking generates large amounts of airborne dust. While dust collectors capture much of this dust, leaked dusts are harmful to inhale and can also create slippery walking surfaces and fire hazards. A 100% outside air direct fired make-up air unit was installed to efficiently ventilate the workshop. Utility set exhaust fans allowed for air removal under high static conditions.

Advantages:

  1. ANSI Z83.4 compliant direct fired system safely heats space with nearly 100% efficiency
  2. 100% outside air exceeds ASHRAE 62.1 requirements
  3. UL705 rated exhaust fans safely remove dust-laden air
  4. Backward inclined utility sets efficiently accommodate high static pressures
  5. Variable air volume (VAV) system adjusts unit airflow based on manufacturing demand, reducing energy costs
