Case Study Report

Location: Alaska

Application Type: Sports Facility

Design: Large, open field spaces can lead to significant winter stratification and cold playing conditions. Summer weather results in stuffy and uncomfortably warm conditions. Direct fired heating was installed to heat and ventilate the space during the winter. HVLS fans doubled to destratify during the winter and provide air movement and a cooling breeze in the summer. Gravity vents allowed for pressure relief as needed.

Advantages:

  1. 100% efficient direct fired burner
  2. Unit runs constantly during occupied hours and cycles to maintain heat set point during unoccupied hours
  3. Recirculating up to 80% indoor air maximizes energy usage
  4. Summer mode allows for higher ventilation rates and environmental cooling
  5. HVLS fans destratify during winter months and provide evaporative cooling in the summer
  6. High efficiency HVLS system resulted in 6 year ROI for end user
